I had my 951 for just a short time and I noticed an exhaust leak at #2 cylinder. I got new gaskets and set about pulling the manifold, but when I turned the aft (rear) nut for #2 cylinder the stud snapped just bleow the head flange.

Knowing what I was in for I pulled the head. I drilled the stud and started an extractor. However, the extractor was too small and it snapped. At this point the head is sitting at a local machine shop waiting for parts (new valve quides and seals).

I've ordered the parts (HG set, exhaust studs, nuts, washers, balance and timing belts) from Pelican parts to the tune of $270.00 and change.

Normally the machine work would run about $188.00, but the broken extractor is going to up the ante.

Do yourself a favor. Pull the head and take it to a machine shop. And when you order parts, get new valve guides (about $4.00 each). Then take the head, valve stem seals (they're in the HG set) and valve guides to a shop.

While the car is down you can do things like cleaning, vacuum lines, hoses, and so forth.

BTW: This makes the 3rd head that I've had re-worked.

Alright all you naysayers.. Waited till my dad to get home to try harder with the dremel and screwdriver idea.. Used electric screwdriver bits, (flathead screwdriver one, believe it was 8mm) took the dremel to the one on the right in the pictures that was not completely flush (still sticking out some). Made a slit in it, took a 3/8 rachet with the right size socket to hold the screwdriver bit... turned it out... The other one was a couple threads down.. decided i'm etiher going back to using one bolt to hold it on for now... or getting this one out too. .. I don't know if him and I are right, but he said that it would be ok if I cut a slot even if it meant the slot going into the head around it a touch, because it will still seal as long as there is a good sized amount from the port out.. and as long as i dont mess up teh face near the port. I cut up and down so that the cut was not going towards the port... And cut... and cut... and cut... and cut some more.. eventually with heating the head lightly wiht propane heat... I got the sucker out.. and here they are... the one that was farther in wasn't in nearly as far as it should be either.. heree are the pictures....

Now to order all new studs and nuts... .as well as for the whole exhaust ( i think i'm going to have to cut the ones that go from manifolds to cat/downpipe) and also the gaskets.. anyone know the best place to do this? or would all these parts be at my local parts store?

When you take very close pictures like that, hit the Macro (or Super Macro) button on your digital camera. It will then adjust for the extreme close-up and the photo will turn out clear and crisp.

Edit: The button is usually indicated with a flower symbol.

If the lighting weren't so bad in my room, i woulnd't need the flash and it would be more clear, but that's too much effort.

Just take the shot at an angle so that the flash isn't pointed directly into the desk.
