He said the belt was stripped dammit. Wouldnt that mean that it woulda jumped some teeth or something? Maybe bending the valves?

hey....actually from what i see my timing belt did not break...it was my balance shaft belt that broke first...causing my timing belt to be stripped...but just fyi the timing belt was replaced at 90,000 and i now hav 138,000 on the car...

The mileage is important, but if you skip retentions they can get loose and destroy themselves well before they are due to be changed. That first retension is very important, the belt gets scary loose in the first few hundred miles. Some people put the belts on extra tight but that can lead to lost of problems (damaged waterpump, crank bearing wear, noise, etc.)
The age of the belt is a big factor too.
