I got around to fixing the needle on my temprature guage. It was off a little from when i put my new gauges on. anyway after i put it on the reading was higher, i figured that was just because i was not used to it being in the correct spot. but now it is almost always sitting on the top middle line. and if i park the car and let it run it slowly goes even higher than that. my thermofan switch is working and i ave full coolant and oil...
i even have the snowflake button turned on so that the fans just never turn off. If i turn my heat on so that the heater valve opens it drops for about 5 seconds then rises again. At first i thought maybe i just wasnt used to the guage being correct but now im starting to smell weird smells int he cabin and just a few minutes ago i burnt my hand on the cam housing. I have not done any work on any part of ym engine in a while so what could i possebly look for to fix this?
and can it be done before saturday!

Above the middle line? I thought that was normal, rarely ever does mine drop below the middle line. When i let it idle, it raises up toward the top line too.
Edit: I think this is normal, unless both of our cars have the same problem. Its been like this for me the whole 8 months i got to drive it.

my guage has 4 lines if it goes above the 4th line (the top one) then a light turns on to alert you. but mine is just siting ont he 3rd line. it should be inbetweent he second and 3rd i think. thats how it used to be. the smells and heat coming off the engine have me suspicious though

over the winter i changed the coolant like 3 times because i kept having to drain it doing work on the engine. coudl this lead to a gooked up radiator or just needing a flush or something like that. Im pretty sure my cap is fine on the coolant tank because i slowly took it off while the car was slightly warm still and it went POP so its deffenitly holding pressure.

Mine never goes above the middle line - but I have the low-temp thermoswitch. No matter what the conditions, it stays between the 1/4 and the middle.
Brett - I don't know anything about your car personally - does the A/C work? If so, the "snowflake" will make the fans run non-stop, but that's because the A/C will naturally heat up your engine anyway. You could be defeating the purpose of running the fan.
Maybe try the low-temp switch? It's cheap, and easy.
Good luck to you. When you say "by Saturday" I'm guessing you'll be at the fest? If so, I look forward to meeting you.
Dale.

Pressure check the cooling system and radiator cap for external leaks with filler cap and neck adapter and tester
Check crankcase oil and automatic transmission fluid for water content and levels
Test coolant thermostat with radiator thermometer
Check temperature gauge for accuracy
Chemical flush compound
Drain system
Clean foreign matter from radiator fins (if needed)
Check fan blades and pulleys for alignment and damage
External inspection of all hoses for cracks, swelling, brittleness and deterioration
Check engine core plugs, (where possible)
Refill system with correct coolant type, check and bleed for air locks
Check condition and tension of drive belts
Includes up to 2 gallons of ProLine coolant or proper type for vehicle and 1 chemical flush compound

Get it hot and open the bleeder screw. If you get steam or coolant with bubbles then you have an air pocket somewhere. It may need more bleeding.

ok i got home, turned off the car and right away tried to get something out of the bleeder screw. a very small little PFT came out followed by solid fluid (is that possible?) So I am now again on a hunt. Ill get in deep tomarrow. and ill take the car by pep boys.

the needle sits just on or if im sitting still for a while, just above but still touching THIS LINE
shouldnt it be inbetween the middle lines.... or is this actually normal?
