Default 944S2 exhaust systems

Hello everyone,

After lusting after 944's since 1983 I finally have one in the form of a 1989 S2. The car is wonderful, although I know I have only barely scratched the surface of its capabilities.

The one thing that is unfortunate is that the car's exhaust note sounds a bit like an old Subaru. Any hints on making it sound more appealing (but not very much louder?)

Thanks. Love the forum...very informative and a lot of fun.

I would suggest you leave it alone.
It may not sound much from inside the car but most of your neighbours will know it's you when you come home late at night amd it does have it's own distinctive charm and personality.
Any more on a long journey can become annoying and can attract attention from the wrong sort of people.

Boffam,
I actually have an aftermarket exhaust for the S2 that came off of my 91 S2 cab. Unfortunetly I have never ran the car with the S2 engine (or exhaust) due to an engine fire. I "think" that the exhaust is a B&B Tri Flow but I would have to look. Again, I have no idea on whether this would give you the sound you are after, but I would assume it would increase performance. I would gladly sell it to you for a significant discount. Let me know if youre interested.

www.speedforceracing.com has your answer!

Get the S2 2.5" cat-back system! It makes the S2 sound the way it should! I have a couple clips in my signature and pictures of it in my gallery.

The B&B's I've heard on other cars, while they have a nice sound, are very loud. Haven't heard one on an S2 though.

I agree. When I let my friend drive my car, it sounds so good from the outside! I wish i could hear THAT sound while driving it.

Heh, heh. Funny you should put it this way...ever since I bought the car when I come home in the evenings the dog barks when I come to the door, which she never does with our existing car. She'll learn.

I don't want the car much louder than it is for the exact reasons you mention. Easier said than done I guess though...

Thanks. HAHA, today i was driving to a PCA event and one member was three cars ahead of me on the road before arriving at the picnic site. He told me when we got there that he could totally hear something behind him and it was awesome! I wish i could hear what it sounded like from outside the car! Damn, i need to find someone to drive my car!

If you want to hear a different noise inside the car, try changing your air filter to a K&N, either the drop in or a custom cone up there in the nose. I usually hear my intake more than my exhaust now, and it sounds good. Other people still hear the outside exhaust note more I think, but inside you hear what's going on up front if it's louder.
