remove condensor for better cooling
My 44 gets pretty hot, up to the top line, in traffic or if I push it. Now I'm a cool climate so in the spring or fall its not a problem but now that summer ambient temps are higher I don't like the guage going up there. The AC doesn't work anyway so wouldn't removing the condensor put alot more air into the rad? Ideas?

I deleted my AC and at the same time removed one of the fans. I don't spend much time in traffic, but it's been working well. In stopped situations the temp gets to just below the upper line in the normal zone.

Make sure your system is in good shape (flushed and new coolant, etc) as mine barely gets above the first line in 100F stop and go traffic.
If you have working A/C, I wouldn't remove the condensor.

Just to insert something in this thread, couldn't a weak or dying waterpump cause the temp to rise in traffic? mine does the same thing as teh first two peoples.. driving it's fine (at about 1/3 marker) but if i stop and idle for 30 seconds or more, temp rises to about 2/3rd mark (top white line) and fans come on and bring it down to about half until i get driving again.

Jim, you've got a problem in your cooling system, check the hoses for blockages, thermostat for opening, and bleed, flush, bleed the system - here in 120' AZ heat I don't get much higher than halfway.

I agree with streck, make sure the system is good. It gets real hot around here (90º++) and the gauge on my car never reads over the first line, top is right on it.

Thanks guys, I have had the system cleaned up. When i got the thing it had a leaking rad and the PO had put stop leak stuff in it. The mech drained, flushed, and put a new thermostat and pump. Instead of a new rad he put in a salvage rad, Cheaper). I'm guessing that the rad has a blockage but I'm not too keen on replacing it until I try pulling the condensor first. My logic is improved airflow should allow the rad to disipate heat better. If yes Then I have some choices.

Well, it definately runs cooler without the condenser. I tired to put heat into it by blasting up the escarpement 500 vertical, on the twisties. The needle stayed at 9 o'clock all the way up. Later I got into stop and go on the highway and the needle went up to just under the top mark and the fans came on and pulled it lower. I think my rad is fu*ked

Yup, car runs cooler without it
I saw a huge difference on my Conquest when I pulled the AC system - lots of weight too..all lines, condensor, compressor, pullys , etc
