I've recently inspected and more or less purchased a 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet, and noticed that the VIN in the engine bay is decidedly European while the VIN on the pilar is of the US variety. Is this normal? The serials match up so I'm sure it's not a hack job. Just wondering if this was customary on these cars.
Also, the front left fog light assembly is cracked and inoperative. I'd like to change both to the European fog/driving light combo. Advice, help?

ASC is American Sunroof Company. All 944 / 951 / 968 Cabs were built as coupes. Then they were sent to ASC who added a second floor pan for stiffness and then cut the top off.

Seems to me that if they were built as coupes, the VIN should still be the US variety in the engine bay. Or did they only convert the Euro cars after import? Does this mean there's no domestic (German) S2 Cabriolets?

Light conversion to the working driving light is fairly simple, though expensive. The lenses can be had for about $150 each from places like Paragon Products (each means one side with a working fog and driving light) but if you really search all over you may find them for as low as $125 each.
Then you will have to wire up the driving side lights. A relay, wire, terminals, maybe a switch for the dash, etc. Just search the archives and you will find plenty of threads on the wiring.
