Default Block pitting

I'm currently in the process of replacing the head gasket on my 951 and found this pitting on the edge of the water jacket by the #1 cylinder. Is this something that's going to be a problem? I haven't seen any indication there was a problem in this part of the gasket.

Pulling the engine would be extremely difficult if it needs to be decked at a machine shop. I assume it would somehow need to be filled before doing so.

Is jb weld an option here? Should i just leave it as is?

Not ideal but probably ok. Its not on the fire ring so the worst that will happen is a little coolant might seep out, but I would be surprised if it even did that as there is still a good area intact for sealing

The repair process would likely be filling that pit by welding and then having it machined flat again. Would likely require full disassembly of the block and then be taken to a machine shop for repair.

Because of that, I would leave as is, especially if it wasnt seeping or not showing any signs of problems before you pulled the head.

JB Weld can come apart over time, and would be worried about it breaking off and moving through the cooling system.

BMW had a corrosion problem with the M42 4 cylinder heads...
Summarizing the factory bulletin: "Clean area, fill it with JB Weld...".
We laughed our asses off, but it worked.
AFAIK, it's impervious to coolant. Does dissolve in lacquer thinner, though!

if the JB weld was contained on all sides I think i'd hesitate less. but since the pitting is on the sidewall, there's nothing to prevent it from coming off and getting into the coolant. Unless it actually did hold really well...
