My windows in my '84 944 stopped working and found it was an easy fix, what I found out may apply to you too.
After you pop the switches out and unplug it, you can separate the switch into two halves. Be careful when you separate them because there are two metal strips inside the switch that carry the current depending if you are pushing the top or the bottom of the button in when the the switch is mounted on the door. Hard to describe, but you will see when you do it.
After being separated, you could see that 20 years of dirt had built up on the contact points preventing the power to flow when you pushed the button in. I cleaned everything up and put it back together and they have worked great since then.
A word of wisdom, pay very close attention to how the metal strips are situated when you separate the two halves. The first time I did this I did not put the metal strips back in the same way as they originally were, and apparently something was shorting out because I continually blew fuses as soon as I turned the key on.
Hope this helps.

From: Central Illinois. Cornfields a plenty.
Tom is right-
I have fixed mine, Dale's, and a bunch of others I cant even recall.
Dissasemble switch, clean the contacts and reassemble. It's that easy. Take a digital pic of the inside of the switch body and orientation of the contacts it must go back together the same way.
If you need more info or pics- lemme know.

Of course, so is Tom, for that matter.
I could not believe how simple the fix was when he fixed mine. I guess 21 years does take its toll on electronic connections.
Good luck!

The older early door switches used spring and ball bearing detents. The newer early door switches use a round nose plunger and spring detent. Both have the spring end contact rocker.
Sometimes you can clean them. Sometimes you can't.
