Do a search, Perry951 wrote a really detailed step by step a while back. I will see if I still have it saved on my computer, if so I will send it to you.

I agree- there are some who do this professionally and it will take a lot less time..

FWIW:
I started with 800 wetsand for the bad sections(Red oxidizes and bad sections- and paint touch ups, roof and hood)..then 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, rubbing compound then polishing compound.- Yes, I wetsanded all by hand in the same direction.
By the time the 2000 rolls around you should be able to sand by feel not visually.
It took me 8 days to complete my car enough to begin mechanical polishing , then some wax to protect the finish.

I still see fine scratches, but a few polishing sessions will take that out.

Be prepared, by the 1500 you are gonna wonder if you did the right thing. It's going to look bad.

I am sure there are better orthodox ways, buy I am ****- "If your going to do something, do it well."

I also did a writeup on refinishing phone dials. This features wet sanding info too. Combined with Perry951's I'm sure it would be more than enough to help you out sand properly. Type 'refinish phone dials' in the search area.

If you have never done it before...dont do it...! This is alot more complicated than most people think....there are alot of variables when doing this....I could easily write up a 2 page deal on how to do it step by step, but reading how to do it and doing it are sooo different......You can always call me also....

I'm at about step 8 of 10- I couldnt wait until I finished. I'll be wrapped up by 944fest kickoff July 3rd. I need to take some time doing a thorough machine waxing and final polish.

It was so dull I swear light was sucked into the paint like a black hole.
