Default Side Body Trim / Strip

I notice many people have decided to remove the side body trim / strip.
I am not ready to repaint my car yet, but could I remove my trim without repainting (Fade marks, glue, ect...) Or has several of you done it without repainting. What did you use to clean off the glue and residue (Goo-gone, ect.?????)

I have the look, I think it breaks up the lines. Plus I think I would screw up the removal, and its functional, stops the door bang thing.
