It would take about 36 hours to drive non-stop to Ohio... thats with about 6 hours sleep for both nights, so figure about 40. I've made it to Chicago from LA in 36 hours with 8 hours sleep. Not too much speeding either more like cruising at 80 mph. It could be done, there is allot to see, especially through the rockies.

But if something is put together next year it could be done, it would just mean getting my AC working though.

I just started a new job, so I can't really ask for time off.

Now, if it was the " Gumball 3000 " then I may reconsider.

It would be a fun drive to get a bunch of us in a caravan with radar detectors, CB's, etc....

I would also want to be current on all maintinance items.

Anyway, maybe start planning an event here in SoCal.. I'm sure that northern Calif and all the neighboring states would attend. We could meet up near some beach where ALL the cars could be in one area. Just a thought... who here has the time to plan such a thing ????

Ditto - if I ever made it to NZ or to Australia I quite seriously would likely not return here.

ah yes.. a cross country drive. nothing compares to it. after all, its not the destination, its the adventure that you have along the way.

if you guys wanna know the best routes to take let me know, i can give you guys a killer driving itinerary, that will be very scenic and will not take any longer to do than freeways.

well, im taking us 50 through nevada, and the 912 gathering is in monterey. but.. b/c i enjoyed the scenery so much last year when i went to sb, i will be going 375 south (or is it 395?) and cutting across 58 though bakersfield to san luis obispo and most likely going to so cal for on night

then us 1 up to monterey. why the long way? and why 50 and not i80? again.. its the adventure.. the scenerey.. and all the crazy *** twisty mountain roads along the way

i will only be taking freeways until i get to colorado, because everything east of there is flat, straight and borring anyways. i will get to colorado in one day (one straight 20 hour drive.. most likely one way or another i will have a co driver this year.. my best friend might be able to, but is unsure yet as he just got out of college has a job with alot of flexability.. but hasnt asked about the time yet. if he cant do it... well lets just say i know a fellow rennlister who wants to come all the way from europe so we can tear up the west coast.. news on that as events and plans develop

Hey will there ever be a 944 Fest in LA or San Diego? If not, we Cali residents should have a meet too. I've never been to a 944 Fest either. Speaking of which, where is this year's 944 Fest?

Dan.. i should refrase that.. cental ohio (columbus and vicinity) sucks ***..

cleveland is great, lots of things to do there year round. cincy is cool. put in bay rocks. Dayton is so so, south east ohio has alot of pretty scenery with great twisties, and hocking hills is amazing. mansfield is ok.. it has skiing (all though its not a major ski area, its somthing to do), and mid ohio is a blast.

so no, not all of ohio sucks ***.. just parts of it

the weather isnt the greatest.. but its the midwest, what do you expect.

True story (since we're discussing Ohio):

When I was going to grad. school in Chicago a few years ago, I needed to drive to Boston for a summer job; I headed east to Detroit, across to Windsor, Canada, and made it to the border at Niagra Falls, NY. Needless to say, I was challenged by the U.S. border patrol upon wishing to re-enter the country - the conversation went something like this:

Border Guard> What is your citizenship?
Me> United States
Border Guard> Where are you coming from / going to?
Me> Chicago, heading to Boston
Border Guard> How long have you been in Canada?
Me> About 12 hours
Border Guard> What was the purpose of your visit?
Me> (short pause) it beats driving through Ohio.
Border Guard> (actually smiling) You're obviously from the United States, welcome home, have a safe trip.

its not bad really driving through ohio as long as you avoid freeways (mainly 71 or 70). the freeways suck quality wise -always under construiction. the highway patrol sucks here too. but if you take back roads, you can go through it pretty fast, and easy.

I would think that Renn Fest West would be a natural for us...any takers? Let's see, we have the roads, we have the Porsches, all we need is someone to plan it.

Harry, 395 is incredibly scenic but flat and straight, Hwy 58 from McKittrick over the mountains to the coast says Porsche from start to end. Enjoy your trip. Stop at Great Basin NP in Nevada if you can; great caverns.

yeah.. 395 is flat.. but thats how you get to 58 from us 50

yeah i would love to see the caverns there. so far the entire trip there we will go through rockie mntn ntl park, dinasaur ntl park, right past yosemite, through a bunch of canyons in utah, countless national forests, the lonliest highway in america, us 1,

i will be taking the same routes that the pony express, the mormons, and the pioneers took. great sceenery, great twisties.
