Default Cam Tower Bolt Striped

I was changing the water pipe on my 83 and one of the bolts that holds the pipe striped, the one toward the front of the engine. This just after I replaced the cam tower gasket a month ago. It looks like the PO had already put a heli coil in it. Any suggestions? I was going to try and see if I could run a tap through and put in another heli coil. Think I could do that without pulling the cam tower? I guess the next would be to pull the tower and drill and tap for a 12mm cap screw. Has anyone had any luck running with one of the cam tower bolts missing? That has certainly crossed my mind.

Did the helicoil come out? You might be able to go oversize, but I'd get a pro to look at it. Could save you a lot of money.

If it doesn't leak oil, then I'm sure it won't hurt to run without that bolt. The cam tower is a pretty stiff piece of hardware. I doubt it would make any difference.
