I'm prett sure there's a top. Did you remove the insert? There is small insert that fits around the rod inside the tube. You have to remove that to compress the shock all the way to adjust it. Sorry about leaving that out before; it's been a while....

Let me know if that helps.

I think there are stops for both setting but I can swear by it. Full hard, is DAMN hard so I set it to full hard and then backed off half a turn or so. It was still a little stiff so I have mine set at the mid-point for the street (the roads around here suck so I needed some dampning).

Good luck.

I've tried out the KYB strut-inserts on my 951 and they worked just fine for a street car. I even bought some used '84 944NA struts and adapted them to my 951 just to be able to use the KYB inserts. Ended up costing less for everything than the Boge strut inserts alone.

BUT, the KYBs are only calibrated for a stock car with stock springs. I wouldn't bother using them with aftermarket springs or any kind of spirited driving. Then again, I wouldn't use the Boge for that either.

Erau - set them to full hard and back off about 3/4 of a turn. Mark it with a black marker so you know how far you went.

I don't think KYB makes the red adjustable AGX for our cars, just the standard white non-adustable Gas-a-Just. I've run both types on other cars and never had any problems with them

they are called gas-a-just , not gas adjust, and that is probably because they probably either, load up as you hit repeated small bumps... OR they get stiffer as the shock compresses, as not to bottom out on a hard large bump?

I have KYB's on two cars.

First I have them on the front on my 84 daily driver. They work nice and get the job done. They were 100 time better than my stock ones that were worn out to nothing. In the rear I run used Koni yellows. I took them from my race car after I swappe to aluminum rear arms on it and need the different shock. I am happy with them given the driving I do in the car.

I also put KYB's in my autocross car. Again better than the monroe crap I had in them. I could have put Koni's in there, but could not justify the money to put into a parts car. Nope. So when cheap with KYB's. They are ok with stock spring rates and the car is better than with the older worn ones.

They are cheap and they work ok and are a good alternative if you don't plan on pushing the car that hard or don't really mind a little imperfection.
