Default How much have you paid for an alignment?

I had my car aligned today and was pretty shocked when I was presented with a bill for $225.
$37.50 to inspect the suspension and $187.50 to align it.
I feel kinda used.......

They were meticulous, it took 2 1/2 hours, and when I questioned the charges they said they charged by the hour because of the complexity of the alignment. The front was good, the LR was toed in a bit and the RR was off .8 on camber when it was put on the rack. The front was realigned after setting the rear. They did a great job but they charge WAAY too much.

Digital Chassis in Durham, NC (Brad Moyer) is one of the most respected suspension gurus in the Southeast. His equipment is second to none and he specializes in Porsche - particularly 928s. Painfully meticulous, he spent 2+ hours with my S2 once. It drove perfectly afterward and 15k later the tires looked brand new. He is not cheap either, charging me $130 a few months back to mount and balance four tires on my new 968.

He charges $100 for an alignment - no matter what it takes.

Unfortunately, the rear toe requires a special Porsche tool to adjust. It's used on 911s too, so just not any shop can do this. Most of the time, the plates that are required to slide past eachother to adjust the rear are frozen together. Freeing them up without damaging anything can rack up the labor hours I suppose. One shop refused to try to adjust my rear toe, as they claimed it was frozen. As a result I paid $80 for an incomplete alignment.

Digital Chassis is where I'll go in the future. I've never seen someone charge $37 to look at your tie rods etc. as part of an alignment

I was charged 59.99 for the front end alignment only. It didn't need back wheels done they said so they didn't do it, but I figured it would have been about $125 total for all 4 wheels.

Chris, at Mind Over Motorsports (read - Site Sponsor!!) slid the paper work aside and took a break from his desk job to spend three painstaking hours to give my 83' her first four wheel alignment. The car is rock solid through the twisties and the manual rack almost feels powered, for a mere $240.

Bone stock with 225/245 16's and a four wheel alignment made her way more fun...

I'd say you didn't get ripped off. A (GOOD) 4 wheel alignment on a 944 goes for around $180-225 in my area. That's the range for the three Porsche mechanics that I would trust to put their hands on my car.
