That vac line that you have plugged goes from "G" to "H/J" which send vacuum signal to Fuel pressure regulators and dampers, which contorl fuel pressure at the rail, which COULD result in air/fuel ratio problems that will alter emissions, and quite possibly the idle.

Except for the fuel rail configurations the early and late 944's are a lot a like. Even the turbo has much the same "basic" vacuum system.

I'll see what I can find on the automatic. Think it has a modulator cable coming up to the throttle cam?

Vaccum canister....that's what was connected to to the second port on the one that's bolted to the back bracket to the airbox.

As for as the one that Kevin said goes to the fuel rail.....hmm

If that is the case, then at some point in time I'm guessing that the temp switch that it is connected to quit working and someones fix was to run straight intake vaccum to it.

If the switched is closed untill the car gets warm then it sounds like something a chheapskate would do since it wouldn't affect the car once it warmed up.

Both the charcoal canister vacuum lines and the vacuum lines going to the fuel rail come off of the same ports.

While the canister lines are not critical to the running of the car the fuel rail vacuum lines are very necessary. A knowledgeable smog check tech (???) will find the blocked lines to the canister and reject the car.

not worried about the smog tech, first time he went to open the hood he popped the back latch, never even looked for the cannister.

now your saying they come off the same port???

I'm even more clueless now than before I asked the question, anyone got a match??

thanks, i appreciate it

kicker was, sitting right outside the door to the hobby shop at quantico was what looked to be an early white 944.

by looking at the sticker, whoever owns it works in the same building as me......should have checked to see if it was locked so i could pop the hood and compare.

anyone have any info on the temp switch?

if it trips at a standard temp, should be able to pick up something from the parts store that is threaded the same I'm guessing

update:

Was sending the paperwork off to get my GTO titled and liscensed in Alaska (saves me sales tax, inspections, and emissions test)

Duh.....freakin Title and liscense the 944 there as well and don't worry about it anymore!!

So that's my fix to this problem for now, at least I'll be able to drive it...
