Default 3 pc wheel question

Anyone have secret insight into or mystical racer knowledge how to get a three piece wheel to seal up 100%?

Where's it leaking?

The bolt-kit I got for my BBS wheels came with a silicone seal that was like double-sided tape. You peel off the paper on one side and lay it down one rim-half. Then peel of the remaining side and lay down the other half. Insert the center, then the bolts & nuts. Tigthen to spec and that's it. I also smeared on some aquarium silicone from a tube on top of the seam on the inside just to be sure.

I also prefer metal valve-stems vs. the pull-through rubber kind.

I'm doing an R&R on a set of Gotti wheels. They're no longer in production so I'm having to finagle my way through. Each time, they've leaked at the bolts. The first time was worst, I used a rubber gasket and silicone caulk. The second time, I used a Permatex anerobic flange sealant and while there were fewer leaks, it still didn't do the job.

Where did you get your bolt kit, from BBS?

I got my BBS bolt-kit from Bob Woodman Tires in NC. Don't think they work on Gottis which have an 8mm bolt? My 3-piece HREs 504 wheels use 8mm bolts too and the nuts, bolts & washers weight 4-lbs per wheel, yikes!

I replaced two of the outer halves on those because they were wobbly. Couldn't get a replacement seal from HRE when I bought the halves because they were all out, so I just carefully separated the halves. I ended up coating both mating surfaces of the halves with aquarium silicone (thicker than caulk). Laid down the old seal and tightened it up. Then on the joint on the inside where the extra silicone oozed out, I just ran my finger along it to smear the silicone flush with the seam. After that dried, I laid down another bead of silicone and smoothed it down with my finger again so that it was tight and flush on both halves.

I think I heard someone talking about some kind of tape over the seam as well.

Do you happen to have a phone number for Bob Woodman Tires?

My wheels had thick, like .125 thick, gaskets that about disintegrated upon disassembly. I haven't found any material similar yet. I'd like to check with Bob for his suggestions.

Whoops, they are in South Carolina:

BOB WOODMAN TIRES INC.

Don't know how the Gottis are constructed, but the BBS and HRE wheels have a gap that the gasket fits into. That way, you can't over tighten the bolts and squeeze it out. The actual contact at the bolt-holes are metal on metal. Not sure if that any relevance to your situation... just more data.
