Replacement Antenna Location on a Cabrio
While troubleshooting poor radio reception on my S2 Cabrio I found the "wire" from the antenna in the windsheild broken. Before I go for mounting a 968 antenna somewhere on the rear trunk lid I have a few questions
1. Has anyone ever tried to "dig out" the end of the wire from between the laminates to do a repair? It appears that the windshield has delaminated in the area where the wire lead came out anyway. Seems like it could be disasterous to go drilling or dremeling in there.
2. Has anyone ever tried glueing a piece of fine wire inside the windsheild as an alternative? Did it look bad?
3. If i mount a 968 antenna, where would I put it. I am not sure the antenna would clear the roof if I mount it behind the third stop light (which seems like the logical place to put it)!
My current trunk lid is a use one I bought and installed to "repair" bad rust under the third stop light. I hate the thought of cutting a hole ....

I mounted one on the 3rd stop light housing itself. Worked well, looked good and never had an issue with opening the trunk or top. It helped that my bulb carrier was all trashed up, so I didn't worry about functionality of the brake light, but I bet you could get both to work if you are careful about placement. The housing itself is made from cast aluminum, I just used the appropriate hole saw and let it fly! (no pics, sorry)

Thanks for the reply, Sea Cay. That is what I am going to do if no other option comes up. I have a "spare" third stop light so I can engineer and experiment on that one.
