Clean Engine bug bit me again...
Hey guys, I've been a busy bee today....
After selling 2 cam covers I have painted, I decided to do a third and refinish the manifold that I had lying around in the garage.
The results pretty much speak for themselves after the components have been clear coated and dried. I used Duplicolor high heat red 600F for the cam cover followed by 600F clear. For the manifold. I used the Duplicolor 1200F exhaust manifold paint "Aluminum" and 600F clear coat...
Pretty spiffy huh?

The results are similar to the durability of a powdercoat IF you clean the surface thoroughly. I used Simple Green Automotive degreaser on the whole thing along with a metal bristle brush and ScotchBrite pads to clean it. I didn't primer the manifold because I ran out of high heat primer but I did primer the cam cover. Overall I'm impressed with the paint and how it mates perfectly with the surface.
Private message me if you want the procedures.

no you can use anything above 500F to be honest. It's not going to get that hot. Just when you get to exhaust components you are going to need something EXTREMELY high heat especially for turbocharged cars.

When I buy another engine I'm gonna do something like that, I already did the same thing to my extra manifold. I'm going to go black cam cover with the porsche script red though.
Sam,
I don't think he masked it, I think he painted the whole thing red then sanded off the script. Unless your taking about the screw holes, maybe he got new screws and just painted the old ones then removed them.
All in all, it looks excellent. Good work
Did you use a air sprayer or a can?

The exhaust paint has a gloss to it already that can resist extreme heats. Using the Duplicolor engine block clear eliminates this gloss and gives it a more mat finish. Notice how the manifold looks less flaky and more like an original NOS part. Duplicolor high heat clears aren't supposed to be super glossy. The chemicals in the gloss will burn off at the first bit of heat exceeding 400 degrees.
