WTF!! my speedometer is acting crazy!

Default WTF!! my speedometer is acting crazy!

ok, so this just happened today, first time was when i drove the car thismorning, ill start from a stop and the needle goes nowhere until im going about 20, then it makes a big jump "sproing" and goes to the appropriate speed. what is wrong? this wont affect my odo, will it? im sure this problem has arisen before, searched and couldnt find anything (i didnt search to thouroughly) please be a cheap and easy fix, please be a cheap and easy fix, please be a cheap and easy fix (fingers crossed). anyone ever have this problem?

-quat2nv (just for fun, quat2nv= quattro to envy, i used to have a 93 audi quattro)

the only problem i have is that its getting closer and closer to 200k i put like 200 miles on my car a day.

I have the same thing, it's not going to do it everytime you start up the car, it hasn't affected my odometer either.

Good luck in sourcing the problem, I haven't been able too.

Sounds as if the speedo cable is binding inside the cable - have you tried to lubricate it or check for kinks along the cable?
quat2nv- is this an early or late 944? (i.e.- model year? )
My speedo cable snapped after 6 months of "bouncing" - cable replacement is pretty cheap and easy.
