I thought I was doing good buying 10 Mahle off ebay for $6.10 each. My local parts shop pinched me for $15 for one!

944T4ME,
Yup, I've been using th STP filter too, yes it does have the antidrain back valve, change oil/filter every 2500, no problem. Bet your right, they may be the same filter, alot of different brands are all actually made in the same plant. As long as it's got the drain back valve and is of a reputable brand, I wouldn't worry about it.

Mahle and Porsche are not necessarily the same. In fact, somebody not to long ago commented that they had purchased a "Porsche" branded filter from their dealer and found "Made in U.S.A." stamped on it.

I suspect, as Mr. Avionics commented, that any reputable company who manufactures filters will manufacture their filters to at least a minimum required spec per application. That means any reputable company producing filters for our cars will include an anti-drainback valve in the design.

Dont forget to figure in your shipping costs as well fellas, that usually jacks the price up, and it usually more than the taxes you will pay buying local.

I have used mahle, Napa, STP, and Purolator filters. I know that all of them have the check valves, both from visual inspection and from my experiences with using them on my car.
