Been looking for a manual transmission for my 88 944 NA.
I've got some people telling me 85.5 and newer. While others saying 88 or 89 only. Plain tranny no lock, no S, and no turbo.

Mid America in Effingham, IL. last weekend. Before I lost the tranny.

Any 85.5 and later trans will bolt right up, the gear ratios in a turbo or S2 trans will be less than optimal but an S trans is a nice swap in an NA.

early tranny's work, but have two issues.

1) mounting is slightly different
2) No spedo port

Note that 924S tranny are really the same as early tranny's

except for that shorter 5th gear.

I have a 944S in my 85.5 N/A and I like the shorter 5th gear. As Dave said any tranny from a 85.5 on will work though.
