Finally have my water pump and timing kit coming. Not really confident in the twist method on these belts being accurate enough. For the life of me I cannot find the arnnworx tool that everyone recommends for sale anywhere. I see 944 online has a kit is that worth the investment or is there something else you guys would recommend?

Take a look at this, then follow the links from there:
The factory tool is the P9201 and it's crazy expensive. I don't think Arnnworx is running right now; I think it's under new ownership and may be taking a bit of time to get back to normal.
Cheers

I did the twist method back in 2009 and my belt is still fine 15 years later.

You don't need a timing tool for the belt tension. It's simple enough to just check the tension by turning the water pump by hand. It should be able to turn by hand without a lot of force, but of course not be "loose". This is not scientific at all, but I've not had an issue with this.
