Default updated parts???

Hello all, I have a question about updated parts. My 85.5 N/A has the chrome bracket in front of thr water pump, which I am told designates it as an updated part. What exactly does this mean and is there any advantage, I gather Porsche, changed them later for a reason. I also heard you can't mix updated with original. I see the non- updated parts are quite a bit cheaper. If I change everything up front should I go back to nonupdated stuff ????? Red

Default

If you have an updated pump you cannot change it for an early pump, without removing the new bracket. I would not pinch pennies here, it is difficult to find rebuilt early pumps. Just about every rebuilt pump you will buy is a late style pump.

Default updated?

According to Vertex you can't buy a new non-updated at all. With the updated should I buy new or rebuilt? Red
