how do those windshield squirters work?
mine have never really worked. i was looking for a fuse in the fuse box and there is not one for that pump that i could find. i found a relay for the headlight cleansing motor which i think is the same one that squirts the windshield but there is no relay in that spot. my motor doesnt try to turn or anything its just silent so im thinking theres no power going to it.

You could always rig it up..cleanly. I think the fuse is intergrated in one of the others. Did you check all the fuses? If it's a relay get one for the one that's missing.

Fuse 24 on the turbos will take out the washer pump for certain but you would also lose the wiper motor. Not sure if you have the same numbering in the post 85.5 N/As. There are probably other fuses that may do it also and some relays and switches which could have partial failure.
But since this has never worked in your car you need to first dig down to the plug on the pump and put a meter on it and see if it is getting juice. Those pumps fail especially if you run them dry. If you are not getting power at the pump then you have a problem tracking it down. Could be fuses, fractured wire, relays or the switch itself. Lots of areas it could go haywire.

The replacement pump for the NA cars without headlight squirters is: 823.955.651.
Iceshark's suggestion is definitely the place to start. I've overhauled my windshield washing system pretty extensively on the 83, including the wiper assembly itself.
Typical problems are:
1. Electrical connection failing at the harness by the pump.
2. Clogged check valves (there are 2 different ones, attached to the hose below each hood nozzle)
3. Debris stuck to filter fitting at the intake hose in the reservoir tank.
If the pump works, it must build sufficient pressure through the check valves to get the nozzles to spray well enough.
Have fun with it and get it working again. You're going to need it to clean off those bugs on the highway this summer!

That's a good point!
Not to overlook the obvious, but in my case, I had already replaced my wiper switch once back in 1997, replaced it again in 2002 when the system began to fail again, and it still didn't work until I checked into those other items.
