Angry Help! door jambed shut

Well as luck would have it - Im swapping my beat up driver's side door for a new to me better looking door. I get the new door on and before I can align it completely it swings shut and latches. It is jambed tight! I can see the mechanism from the inside of the door but while things move it just will not unlatch at all. I need help fast. Anything I can do besides use dynamite?

Thanks,

Mark

Try lifting up on the door to take the weight off the hinges and latch. You may want to have someone inside the car and outside of the car both holding the door at the same time. Make sure the door is not locked.

Ive been trying to lift it and it is unlocked as far as I can tell. The door is completely shut so I cant see how I would be able to get much movement anyway. I will keep trying :-(

Thanks,

mark

Did you try to open it from the inside as well as the outside? Sometimes the door handle is broken from the outside and will not open the door. Normally, if I lift and pull the door will open.

the exterior door handle isnt on yet. I have the interior door lever attached and have been working from the inside mostly. I have tried lifting from the outside as well but since it is completely shut I dont think that is doing much.

Have someone inside the car pulling on the door lever while someone is outside lifting the door and opening it at the same time. I would find it pretty difficult to lift the weight of the door from inside of the car.....

if you can reach the linkage that attaches to the outer door handle, push down but make sure the locking button is up and the door should open.
