Default Should I swap my S2 for a Turbo?

I thought I'd share my predicament with you guys, as I've just been to look at a black Turbo SE and I'm not sure whether it would be a wise move or not.

I've currently got a Guards (India?) Red 1989 S2, which have had now for 2 years. There's nothing major with it, it's just had a full service, including the all important belts and, apart from a few minor things, it's in near mint condition.

However, if you look follow this link (http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW...0&modelexact=1)
and look at the second car down, hopefully, you will find a black 951 going for £8993 near 137,000 miles (spookily the same as mine).

I've been to have a look and it looks in good condition, the full report which comes with the car documentation (I have one the same, because it has been service by Hartech, a reputable Porsche specialists here in Northern England), indicates very little to be worried about (there are more items on mine).

When I started it up, the tappets where audiable, similar to mine in some respects, but after a minute or so, they became much louder! I put it down to a dry tappet, which may have resulted from a large amount of time stationary?

Everything appeared to work, except the luggage cover wouldn't roll up and the clock LED was knackered. The interior is exactly the same as mine, black dash with cream half-leather, which I prefer.

The advert mentions a 'mod' which puts the torque up, which makes me apprehensive, but the seller mentioed that it is something they took off from the 951 originally, as they were quicker than the 911 at that time, so the previous owner (whom he happened to know, since this was at a trade garage) had put 'it' back on. However, he didn't tell me satisfactorily what 'it' was, except something about a braided pipe somewhere. I'm not convinced, would you be?

Anyway, tomorrow, I'll be taking my car down so he can have a look and I'll be going for a test drive, so we'll see, as I won't be doing anything without a good think about this one. My overall impressions are quite mixed. What do you guys think?

IMHO its a pretty tough call. Ive ridden in an S2, and I drive my Turbo everyday.

S2s have the nice low down torque and no lag and a nice exhaust note
Turbos have the pull and the nice exhaust note.

I would keep your S2. The picture of your car is beautiful. The turbo will be more expensive to maintain. Your S2 is much more enjoyable to drive around town than the turbo. The only reason to get the turbo is if you really like to go fast. If you need the speed the turbo is the winner. For cruising the S2 is the winner.

My 2 cents.

Yeah, i've been thinking about it, and I think that it would be unwise to spend any money trading what is essentially the same car, with little difference bar a bit of grunt moved from the low-rpm, and stuck further up the range.

I'd get AC, which I currently don't have, but being a UK car, it's not really an issue! And I'd only use it, on average, once per week anyway. The year and milage are the same, and I don't know what trouble I'd be buying into, whereas the money I'd blow getting it, would probably do better fixing the minor faults I currently know about with mine.

I'm surprised it didn't have full electric seats, being an SE, I thought they all had them. It should have a LSD too, eh?

My mate reckons, of all he 944's he's seen, mine is the tidiest, and thinks I'd be foolish to let it go under these circumstances too.

So, I guess that's it then!
