Default Mobil1-15-50 and oil pressure

After recently changing to Mobil1 15-50 I've noticed the sustained OP on the car stays at or near 5 bar under just about any load. Even after hard running it will only drop to 3 bar +/-.

This has me a bit concerned. What's the general feeling about higher OP on the 951 from Mobil1?. It's a solid car, good compression, doesn't use oil, etc. Will 5 bar wash a out a bearing at those levels? I live in a very hot climate here and plan to run lighter weight when the weather cools off.

Thanks

Steve

My 86 951 runs Mobil 1-15/50 and matches what you are experiencing exactly. Even at idle at a light when hot I drop to no less than 3 lbs. Water temp seems low also. Car runs smooth and pulls like a mule in all gears, so I figure all is good.
I'm running 73mm mass air with a stage 2 chip if that matters. Can't imagine how that might effect oil pressure though.
Hope we get some response from someone who really knows what SHOULD be happening rather that what IS happening.

I also see what you see. On the road the pressure is around 5 bar. At idle, it shows 3 bar with a fully warmed up engine on a warm day. Nothing to worry about...it's completely normal.

With dino I always used the rule that I would never hit any serious boost until the engine was warmed and I could see a pressure drop at idle. With the consistent 5-bar reading under any load it just has me a bit concerned to hit it too hard until I hear from others with more long term experience. The car does run great though and I also see the drop in overall water temps. Guess it beats dropping below 2-bar in heavy traffic like it used to do with 10-40 dino. Hope others will post their results to get a wider consensus.

I have the same except my pressure w/Mobile 1 drops to about 3.5 bar at idle when hot. You will notice with more miles on teh oil that the pressure drops slightly.

Don't you have more pressing problems than high oil pressure?

(Mine's the same, and I haven't lost any sleep over it.)

2Tight:
On my 944S2 with 140,xxx miles, I experience the same thing you do, execpt when driving on the track.

In DE, on a warm day after 15+ minutes on the track, the oil pressue will drop to around 3.5 - 4 bar event at redline. That's one reason why cool-down laps are important!

On normal street driving, even high speed highway cruising, I notice no drop in oil pressure at speed.

No, I'm serious! Your car must be in amazing shape if that's your main concern!

I'm sure there's nothing the matter with your oil pressure. There are many people here who use 15/50 and I've never heard of any problems with it.

No offense, eh?

No offense taken, I was just hoping to learn a little more about the subject. And yes I do have more pressing problems but I don't always ask questions in the order of importance. If I ever saw a steady +60psi on my old Jeep I'd be looking for the oil filter to launch through the fender. Most pressing problem? #1. Figuring out where I'm going to come with $70K for my Son's chosen University; #2. I'd love to quit babying the clutch trying to nurse another year out it. #3. I think I'm out of beer

Same here never less then 3 and underload to redline it's 5 only tested that when it was warm and ready to. You really don't want your pressure to drop below 2.

Are NA's different?

I'm running 15/40 dino and after a spirited drive will be between 1.5 and 2 at idle.

Or am I looking for things to complain about.

Rule of thumb is 1 bar of oil pressure per 1000 rpm as a minimum.

3 bar at idle is fine.
