Yea I wrecked my old saturn. I was sitting at a stop sign and some idiot in a Cargo Van ran into me. I didn't have much of a front end left and there was a shower of styrofoam. Anyway, he drove home and I had to wait for the tow truck.

i thought it was interesting, that if the tach is working, but the speedometer is not plugged in, the light doesnt function. but once the speedo hooked up, it was fine.

Ohh and i dont notice it. but the only thing it does to me, is bug me because passengers say, isn't it telling you to shift?
i prefer to drive steady around 2800-3000

I don't know about you guys, but speak for yourself. That lil freaking light rules!!! it makes our cars look more advanced than they are!
My '86 Jetta had that same shift light arrow.

Is there any way to change the RPM trigger to make it a useable shift light?

I think that anything that is proportionate to the speed you are at and and therfore reacts to it is cool.
such as oil pressure. when you stomp it goes up.
gas mileage meter. when you stomp it goes down.
tach, when you stomp it goes up.
mph. when you stompm it goes up.
shift light. when you stomp it goes away. you can say its tell ing you to go faster!!

I agree...the arrow isnt a shift indicator. Its telling you that you need to increase your speed.

Speaking of Saturns, a buddy of mine helped me become pretty comfortable with driving stick shift on it. I find it funny because he is a pretty skilled driver, knows how to double clutch, heeltoe...etc, hes much faster through a curvery wooded backroad area than my friends midly hooked up late model SE-R. Its all about the driver!

Anyways this Saturn is a piece though, but thats to be expected when paying $400 for a car. We really beat on it though, reverse 180's, shifting witihout the clutch..etc. The gas gauge is broken, ABS dosent always work, the automatic seatbelts are very tempormental only working about 4 out of 10 times you open and close the door. The rev limiter kicks in at 4000rpm when the car is at idle. Its fun having a beater though. His father and him are planning on putting a nitrous system into it. The father just sold his Corvette, they removed the nitrous system. The father actually said "want to try and hook the nitrous up to the Saturn?". Not sure how they plan on hooking evreything up...but i figure itll be funny too see the car still be beat my just about anything...then blowup.

i dont actually use it but i shift about the time it goes off. sure i drive like an old lady. screw the people behind me. i am not in a rush to get anywhere and taking it easy on the car is how i like it. second i am used to shifting really early. in my audi i shift at about 2500 RPM and will generally cruise at 1500 RPM. however i dont all the time. i like to give it a little gas every now and then.

I knocked the shift light's appearance at low RPMs, but then Jay the Toolmaster said that it has two modes. One for optimum fuel economy (old lady mode) and one for optimum power.

I have yet to see it come on again after stomping on it, but I guess I'm too busy watching the road at 6750 RPMS. Hell with my car apart since last May I wouldn't mind see that light again in either mode

I shift at 3k when driving normally. I never keep my engine under 2k...seems like it struggles at really low rpms.

I usually shift at 4 for normal driving and try to not let the tach drop below 3 during the shift.....sometime rev up to around 5 if I am having fun....I try not to drop below 2 for normal cruising.....although I've been told to not drop below 3 but sometimes that gets annoying.....car sounds really cool above 5 though........
