IIRC that is to speed up engine when you turn the steering wheel all the way. To help the power steering. You should have a plug somewhere under there with a rubber boot around it.

Default Does that thing next to it seem right

to connect. And I know the bushing needs to be replaced. Is that hard and where do I get the parts?

Thanks

I have yet to figure that out or for that matter how to stop it from getting that way.

Let me know when you figure that out.

Default Ok, have you tried

simple green. It usually works well on grease.

to get that stuff under there youre gonna need somethIng stronger than simple green if you want to get it clean easily. Try castrol super clean degreaser, or Gunk brand engine degreaser both work wonders under a car.

i think thats the wire that you are supposed to have unplugged from the power steering pump. there was a porsche recall to have all these unplugged, i believe they cause an engine fire due to possible shorting otherwise.

i may be wrong but these are words of caution.

As a side note, looks like you've got a sway bar bushing on the way out.

Mine has been unplugged for 13k miles now. Something wrong with it because it causes the engine to quit when it is plugged in. I have not had time to look into it and I cannot find it on the 87 wiring diagram from the factory service manual.

Previous owner gave it to me with the car. Bootleg CD from unknown source.
