try the seatbelt anchor, thats the only other thing not welded.

i remember reading somewhere that an assembly line worker at ford i think left a bag of screws between two panels. they pracitcally took the car apart french connection style and then found the source of the rattle.

thats the next step.

lift up the corner carpets, i just noticed a connection for the lights wrapped in foam on the drivers side. make sure the foam is on the connection. it might have been removed when a bulb was changed. i dont think the factory would have wrapped a wire connection in foam for no reason.

My 944S2 Cab is still available. The SC didn't work out so I am now planning a roadtrip to Houston. A dealer is giving me $9k on trade for a '91 C2 Targa. The miles are killing me (rolling up on the car too). PM w/your address is interested. I'm planning on heading to TX on June 1.

I don't have any rattles in my car.....

...that I can hear, that is! !

The autox/DE harnesses bang around a bit, so I hear 'clang clang' in corners when I'm not wearing them on the street.

Plus at times, the hatch squeaks like a greased pig in a butcher shop!

But rattles? Can't hear them over the other noises in my car!

And if they all start to bother me, I just turn up the radio!

Obviously, I have different priorities....

I hate rattles! I'll have to check the seatbelt ratchet mechanism in the back. I also wanna remove and clean out the hatch pin receivers, to make sure they are gripping the pins properly.

The silicone on the snaps made them totally quiet...a step in the right direction!

Andy,
pull the carpet forward, check that each wire connector is encased in foam, and that the drain tubes are against the foam stuck to the lights. also, tape the tubes to the light, and tape the wire connectors to the car.

my wire connectors have foam on them.

Also, the bill of sale to the PO has the PO's PO name on it. The name isnt in howard beach anymore, but there is a listing in englishtown NJ.
will call next week to see if i could get some more info on the cars history. did you see the craftsman 3/4 socket with the big wrench that was wrapped in the towel we thought was there just to wedge stuff.

why didnt he say something was in the towel? aaarrrghh

Ha! Free wrench!! Excellent. Nice PINK towel to hold the compressor down. That's why that guy was no enthusiast!

While the maintenance intervals and items posted by Dave are certainly valid for many owners, I will say that several who have responded to this thread (Dave included) regularly track their cars, which undoubtedly increases maintenance costs for numerous reasons (greater wear and tear, desire for optimal performance under extreme conditions, etc.)

A 944 certainly won't be as much of a "free ride" as your new Subaru, but as a daily driver I don't see why it should be any more expensive to maintain than your initial budget, and I only say this from personal experience with an early 944 as a daily driver since 1994.

YMMV
