Default 924 Turbo Coolant flow direction

Hi all,

I will shortly begin to rebuild a 'high horsepower' 924 T engine that I have bought. It has already had lots of mods done, including later model water cooled garret turbo, haltech ecu etc etc. Runs well, produces 250 rwhp, but for reasons not known to me it has overheated in the past and since then smokes. Hence the rebuild plan.

But the overheating in its past got me investigating coolant flows etc and I read that cooling, especially to No. 4 cylinder, can be improved by running the coolant in the opposite direction (electric water pump, modifying thermostat housing, modifying coolant connection at back of engine, etc etc.).

My question is simple. How essential is it that I make the modifications to reverse the coolant flow, or with decent radiator (944 turbo), decent fans (twin 944 turbo) etc etc is coolant flow reversal not necessary? i.e is coolant flow reversal a 'nice to have' change that is not absolutely necessary?

(Car will retain ac, functional heater, etc etc, will be used mainly on the road, with occasional spirited track use).

Many thanks in advance
