Talking Few pics from Nürburgring

I was on a holiday last week with a bunch of friends. We took a boat from Hanko, Finland to Rostock, Germany.

Getting ready to board the Superfast VIII (it cruises at around 25 knots, not bad for a ship that big..)

Final destination for us was the Nürburgring track, located in south-west corner of Germany. The drive from Rostock was about 750 kms... lots of autobahn, occasional pit stops to refuel and drink coffee...

Managed to get to the hotel Am Tiergarten without much trouble, and proceeded to get some sleep. We agreed to get up early and go out on the ring right at 8 am.

The RS wasn't part of our group...

Neither was the silver GT3... I swear I've never seen so many GT3s than during our short stay at the track, they were all over the paddock! (I actually witnessed three of them leaving on a trailer after a contact with the armco..)

We spent pretty much the entire thursday on the track, chilling out between the laps and enjoying currywurst mit pommes frites for lunch..

Here's me queueing (sp?) at the gate, behind a friend's 930..

The weather was nice and all in all the day was really something to remember... in the evening we had dinner at the Pistenklause restaurant

On friday 21st the track wouldn't be open to public until afternoon, so we took the opportunity to visit the Nürburgring museum.

On the background you can see the Dorint hotel, where the F1 drivers stay during races...

In the museum they had all kinds of cool oldschool stuff on display.

It was raining lightly in the morning, but fortunately the weather cleared up for afternoon, and we were able to go out on the track again. I took it very easy though, as I was definately not in the mood for wrecking my car...

In the somewhat heavy traffic I got a 10:18 BTG lap (measured from the first bridge to the gantry right at the start of the main straight... so adding 25-30 secs to that would give the "true" lap time). Not very fast, but I'm more than satisfied, and besides - it's not a good idea to try too hard out there...

Here's a shot of my car in front of the hotel.

I wish there was a way to capture the sights of Eifel region mountain roads... it's by far the most impressive scenery I've ever seen...

On saturday it was time to head back towards Rostock and the ferry. Luckily we had time to stop by a booze shop to grab some souvenirs (beer is considerably cheaper in Germany than it is in Finland.. I was able to fit three crates in the trunk without trouble, plus a few 6-packs of wine..)

Of course! He has a bit more HP, but apparently it's not an easy car to drive fast...

Awesome pics!

It's actually a Chrysler (IIRC) .. I think it was called Nova, essentially the same car as a Talbot Horizon ... except this one was turbocharged, had a roll cage and pilot sport cup tires...

Sami951,
Great post. Brings back memories of when I was there. November of 2002. Went with my best friend (Porsche enthusiast too) and rented and Audi TT from Avis rental car. Couldn't get a 911, I think they told us we had to be at least 30 years old. We were only 24. Anyways, probably just enough car for us to handle the ring. We were out there on a Saturday and Sunday in November. Surprisingly a dry weekend considering typical German weather at that time. But we had a blast taking the TT around the ring all day both days. We only stopped to eat lunch and the occasional refuel. At one point though my buddy was driving and applied brakes a bit too late on a curve and bumped the wall. Scratched and dented the rear passenger quarter panel. I'll have to find the pics in my files and post them. Damage wasn't too bad. Avis didn't even ask questions. We're planning on going again this October (visit Oktoberfest as well).

Sounds like a great time. One of these days...

Your car looks great outside of the hotel, btw.
