Default Door Handles

Will early door locks fit in late model door handles ? I am not talking 968 handles I mean 85.5 + black handles.

I would say it depends. Based on what I have seen with my ill fated A2 door handle modification, I would think no. The late door locks had electrical actuation of the lock. This was done with a gear drive off the end of the lock cylinder, effectively making the lock cylinder ~.25" longer than one without, at least from what I have seem. If your car did not have the electric locks, the cylinder might be in too deep from the handle rather than flush.

If interested, you could buy the VW handles from me. I believe they will fit the early lock cylinder and give you the benefit of switching to a pull mechanism rather than the trigger of the original handles. PM if interested.

If they are manual locks on the later car they may.

No they won't. I just tried it yesterday. I was going to swap my old (89) handles with tifosiman (his are 85.5) and the design is different. I think the change was in 87.

Not to hijack, but 944pete. You still have your old handles and want to get rid of them??? I had a little "mishap" during re-install of my originals.

Cheers,

I promised them to someone else but if they don't work for him I'll let you know.
