Default No air from defrost and side vents

Hi,
Trying to figure out why my 86 951 has no air coming out of the air vents for the front windshield or the side air vents for the side windows....middle section is working.
I tried the defrost button, moving sliders etc... but it seems nothing gets the air to move there.

Is there a servomotor that would control these areas?
Also, I know the previous owner changed the white plastic and metal clip in the driver side footwell....would an incorrect install impact airflow to these areas?
AC not working on the car right now (low freon), so the AC compressor is not engaging.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi all, small clarification to the problem - air only comes out from the main vents in the center of the dash (no air flowing to windshield, side vents or floor vents)? Moving sliders etc makes no difference and in fact, when I move the sliders, I don't hear anything moving to direct airflow. Does anyone have any ideas on what makes the airflow change location? Should I be hearing any noise? Any electronics to check (all fuses are fine)?
The small white plastic piece that commonly breaks on 944s under the driver footwell has been replaced recently too.
Thanks!
