Default air flow meter and airbox

I'm wanting to ditch my cone filter and put an airbox back on. I don't like the way the afm isn't held in place by anything.

I saw an air flow meter and airbox on ebay from an 87, were they the same as an 84?

Yes.

The guy at the recycler where I got mine said they were.

The one I just put in my 84 came out of a 87. It seems to be working.

NO it will NOT WORK unless you have the computer from an 87. i have several airboxes/afm's here from early cars, and will cut you a gianormous deal on one if you want... say $40 and shipping for a complete box and tested afm.

i can have it to you sometime next week.

Well since I only bid $25 on the thing, whenever I get outbid I'll let you know. Does a gianormous deal include an Eagle card discount??

Don't have a bunch of extra interior stuff for the early cars layin around by chance do you?

He's right. The early car dme will not work with a late car air meter. You can change both the air meter and the dme, then you can put a chip in.

well if you changed the AFM and the DME wouldn't you also need to update some other parts to accomidate the later DME?

I didn't have to myself. As stated above, AFM and the DME, and your good to go! I took them from a late '85 and put it in my early '85, and it got rid of the "944 shudder". Nothing else was changed or replaced. I tried (for grins and giggles) to see if the car would run changing out just the AFM. It would start, but almost imediately die out. Good luck!

What's a riddle buck? They just collect about $140 of tax dollars for every credit hour I take.

I need a dash, center console, drivers door panel, black turn and cruise, wiper switches, trim around the ignition, sunroof panel, well damn near everything actually, pieces that cover the rear speakers ect.

oh and tan carpet which I will probably buy new next week.

If you get the later style AFM, I have a DME from an 87 944 that I could part with for $250. I might have some of the trim pieces you're looking for too.

I have one sitting in my garage, waiting to be used. Give me a decent offer and it's yours. email -> brando@ogsth.com

Clarification: I have a stock AIRBOX, AFM is being used by Don 944 LA to pass emissions. IF HE EVER GETS DONE WITH IT, it'll be for sale (if he doesnt buy it).

Off of an '83 944.

would just the airbox fit off the newer car? (in case i win this auction)

I'm definately not interested in buying a DME anytime soon, I actually have no idea if my AFM is working correctly or not, haven't got around to testing it yet (i haven't been home enough lately)

My question persists to the topic so I might as well ask, what are the symptoms of a bad AFM, besides, the stall and really weak idle. <mine isn't that bad yet.
