944's are to 951's, as 912's are to 911's? Yes? No?

thats why i like the 912. no frills light weight sports car that takes skill to drive! every time in the twisties, i push her to the brink. i love knowing that im on the edge and i can feel the tires squeeling around the sharp turns and switchbacks.. and knowing that i hold the fate of myself and the car in my hands.. i control everything, computers dont. its almost like being god.

thats why i like vintage sports cars.. no frills, all *****, and it takes real driving skill and feness

Seems like the guys that write for magazines do too. I've read they kinda like the Boxster over the Boxster S because it takes more ability to drive one as fast (or nearly so) as an S. I read the comaparison of the GT-3 compared to a '73 Carrera RS and they extol the wonderful power and this and that, and then they still pick the RS. Seems we aren't the only ones who feel this way.

Sure, all the new gizmo's sell cars..you gotta put something in there for $100,000! But all it does is give a guy with more money than ability the illusion that he's a "good" driver. The truth is he's nowhere near the driver that one of us in our lowly (not!) 912's or 944's are on the Autocross course.

P.S. Hence, you get the "A Canyon Run That Didn't End Great" thread, poor guy.

Haha, so true. I can only hope to get mine into as good as shape as that 924 shown (same color as mine, just less dents and rust).

It's nice to hear that everyone shares a similar opinion on the ugly trend of sports cars throwing in all these electronic gizmos these days. It really is kind of disturbing that no balanced RWD sports cars with little in the way of electronics are made now. The cheapest one being the $40k Lotus Elise? Or a base model V6 Mustang that really doesn't have any balance or poise (unless the new ones do, but still doubtful cause of its weight)? Oh well, just have to stick to old Porsches!
