Just noticed yesterday that I have lost some power at upper RPM's. Runs smooth, no noise, oil pressure gauge same as always. It just doesn't "kick" when I put the pedal on the floor. Any thoughts?

Has the cam timing shifted or not been timed properly? Needs two dial indicators on the #1 lobes to set it correctly.

I am not mechanical enough to answer your question. Trying to get some ideas as ro what the trouble MIGHT be before I go to high-priced mechanic and get ripped!

Another point: If the Hall sensor on the cam fails or any of the two knock sensors, the DME shifts the timing back over 4 degrees. This could be the loss of high end pep.

Any chance it could be your clutch? When mine was going, it slipped a little at high RPMs, not anything you could see on the Tach, but it definitely felt like a loss of power. When I pulled the old clutch it was down to the metal studs holding the friction material on.

knock sensors sound more appropriate causing that timing to retard.

Could be a number of things - some mentioned above.

Easy and free: Check the plugs, wires, rotor, cap, coil to be in good "looking" order. Check the AFM trace and clean it (remove black cover from AFM, clean trace and wiper arm with eraser or Isopropyl Alcohol

Not cheap, but wise: If a tune-up is due, do it. Cap/rotor/plugs. I had a weak coil on my 86na that appears to have caused a flat spot in the 3500-4500 range - replaced with MSD6A (a little overkill). Run some fuel system cleaner through a full tank. Have the injectors cleaned and tested. There are some others but these are the most common and least costly.

If it's the clutch, it "should" change as you drive differently or on different grades - it's all related to force, not speed. The clutch on the 944 is hydraulically actuated - it's unlikely you'd only notice this on high revs.

Good Luck!
