The fan on the AC has been strange for the past couple of days. It runs okay on fan speed 2. On fan speed 1, it runs sometimes. Yesterday when I switched from fan speed 2 to 1, it worked at first, but the fan stopped completely after a few minutes. Then I bumped it back to speed 2 and it started working again.
I had a similar problem on Sunday, that it did not start at fan speed 1, I had to go to speed 3 to get it going.
Is it due to the climate control unit going bad? Or the blower needs some service? Or electrical problem due to bad ground?
I would appreciate any help.

Maybe the blower motor is dying of overuse - it is hot an humid in Houston.
Seriously, if the motor has bad bearings, switching to a higher speed would put more voltage to the motor and that would overcome the high starting threshold. Just a guess.
You really need to determine if the motor is getting voltage when it is not turning.

Resistors are in top of the fan housing. (under the plastic cover at windsheild wipers) It has two screws and is where the wires plug in. Take them out and clean them.

I cleaned the resistors, but no improvement.
Kevin,
It might be the control unit because the fan turns off at higher speeds as well. Also my thermostat doesn't seem to work, as the AC keeps blowing cold air all the time.
I could try putting it in, whenever we get together the next time for your timing belt.

I had the same problem. I was intermittant. 1 and 4 worked, and 2 and 3 worked sometimes, they would die on the road and I had to switch it back to either 1 or 4. I cleaned the resistor a couple time but the last time it I had taken the whole blower motor out and everything to put in my new wiper motor. I cleaned everything up and the blower works perfect, even though I know I didn't put those flappy thing on right.
