Hmmm, maybe you should put the original injectors back in. See if you can pass it with those.

I have the old ones. They had been serviced at RC Engineering about 8 months before I pulled them out. One developed an internal leak. Guess I could put them back in, but it failed with them before.

Hey Geo, Maybe I can help with pulling your engine,,,,piece by piece

Failed before and after injector replacement, must not be the injectors.

Guess its time to start checking fuel system components.

So I would think you really only need one known good injector. You gotta start somewhere. I am not too sure about the Chrysler injectors.............

You checked the O2 sensor, right? That seems to be the cause of a LOT of emissions-related problems.

You checked the O2 sensor, right?
replaced it same time as the CAT to get it to pass in 2002.

Will do Kevin. Didn't we check my AFM before? Also, need anything for Sun, jack etc...? Don't know if I'll drive the truck or 944.

I had the same problem with the emissions test last October. My stepdad said it was a hole in the exhaust, causing it not to pass. I doubted him and said it was the O2 sensor.

I had about the same numbers as you did, until i replaced the o2 sensor. I would check that over to make sure the wires arent messed up at any point, and check to see if its even plugged in. Did you get a Porsche replacement one? IF you didnt, and got the universal replacement one, make sure you did not solder the wires and make sure they are connected correctly. There has to be air between the wires to make it read properly. Right now i am leaning toward the Oxygen Sensor.

You say it worsened in May 2003? How long did you drive the car before you made it to the test facility? Was it shorter than the time you drove it in December? If the car has been sitting a while, it should be driven for a good 30 mins to an hour to get the Cat nice and hot.

Id try going with the free stuff first like I mentioned above. Its easy and hey, its free!

Faulty O2 shouldn't be able to make it go to 9% post-cat. That's really, really rich.

I am still leaning towards pressure or volume problem.

I became a reluctant expert on Harris County emissions last year. One more item on our to-do list for Sunday.

those kinda numbers have to be 1 of 2 things.

either your putting more fuel than you can burn with the normal amount of spark energy

or your not making enough spark energy to burn the normal amount of fuel......

at least that's my conclusion

#1 Plug. Pretty fouled, with carbon, but not as bad as I would have thought with the numbers. This has about 300 miles on it.

That spark plug is pretty dirty for 300 miles.

Since you said the car is running well, my guess is that the mixture is too rich. Wouldn't a weak spark would cause performance problems?

I had a problem with plugs fouling on my motorcycle a few years ago. The short story – it needed the next hottest range plugs. It was unbelievable the difference it made. The plugs fouled if I wasn’t doing at least 70 ALL of the time. After the change to hotter plugs I could cruise around slowly without a problem. Since they don’t test emissions on bikes around here I don’t know how this was affecting the emissions. BTW my bike is fuel injected, computer controlled and Turbo charged stock from the factory.

Are your plugs gapped correctly that looks a little big to me.
