Question Brake Rotors and Pads...the OEM deal?

I did a search, and got even MORE confused!

I need to replace my brake pads and rotors in the near future. I want stock performance (aka, street use), and would like OE rotors, and good street pads that wont hurt my rotors.

I've read good and bad things about Metal Masters, Mintex, and "stock" pads. What should I get to get OE rotors and OE pad performance, without paying dealer prices? Where can I get the best deal on the above?

Thanks!

I think, but am not positive, that the primary comments against Metal Masters are from folks using them on the track. In some cases they hold up fine, in other they don't. For street use, they are a very inexpensive pad with very low dust and squeal properties - a great street pad. At nominally more than twice the price are offerings from Pagid and Jurid which were both OEM.

OE rotors for you are Zimmerman.

Good Luck!

I read that the Zimmerman rotors rust almost as soon as moisture hits the hats. Are there other OEM rotors that don't rust as fast?

Thanks for the help Skip!

i had pagids on the car when i bought it, and replaced them with the australian ones paragon sells. the pagids were noisy and very dusty. the paragon pads were much better.

skip is there a difference between brembo and zimmerman rotors? he has the brembos on his car.

The MeatlMasters are great for street use. Low dust and reasonably quiet.

Aftermarket rotors are ok. I replaced all four last year that I ordered through a local store. I think they get them from the same supplier that the mailorder places use. Anyway I've had no rust and they work great. Cost $50 or $60 each.

I'm sure that one of the good suppliers would give you a good price and stand behind the purchase.

I replaced mine with zimmerman rotors. Take the time to paint the 'Hats' with a hi-temp silver and you will be fine. Metalmasters are fine. Mine squealed bad but after some real hard braking, they quieted down.

BTW, its a good idea to chamfer the leading edges of the new pads with a file or grinder.
