Default Bad ECU/DME?

I've been having a problem with my 944 where the car won't start or idle, the ECU/DME looks a little rough with corrosion and heat and I'm wondering what the signs of a bad DME is for the 944. What's the most normal thing to go wrong?

Heres the link to my long thread that shows what I've encountered on my 944 journey, it has some extra information about the car:

I sent some pictures of the ECU/DME to the previous owner of the car and he said the heat spots on the ECU/DME are new and he sent me pictures of when he had it apart and it looks much less crispy than the ECU/DME now. I'm going to source a new ECU/DME and will post on the thread if it's the issue.

instead of sourcing a new old DME get a focus 9 tech F9T 944-SPEC DME (https://www.ftech9.com/new-products/944spec-dme)
also will the car start/run on starter fluid? if so check the wires to the injectors they fray n short out n since the car is batch fire if one shorts they all short

Ive been looking at the Spec DME and I'm going to pull the trigger. I just email ftech9 about some compatibility issues and my core so if all works out I'll being sending my DME to them. The injectors work correctly after I replaced them. I put them in cups attached to the rail and 2 were firing then I replaced them and then all 4 fired.

Always good to check Clarks Garage - lots of good info there

There is no easy way to test a DME other than swapping with a good known unit. Perhaps a member lives nearby with a similar year DME can help
