Default 968 reindexing torsion bars

Well, I have been up and down the archives for information on re-indexing with the bars still on the car. On the 968, there is room for the cap to come out like on the 924s due to the rocker panel cutaway under the rocker panels.

My question is, how do you remove the cap in order to reindex using this method? Any information is appreciated as it is looking more like I will need to drop the torsion tube. Unless the black cap can come off in some matter, I do not see how the cup cars and 924's reindexed with just the hole in the side of the body panels.

TIA - TJ

If it is like the hole in the 911's, the cap comes straight out thru the hole until it stops due to the plate and clears the end of the t-bar, then you wiggle it down and out. Sortof a 2 step process. Make sense?

Hmm, sounds like it is easy. How do you get the cap to come off. From what I am seeing, this is exactly like the 944, only there is clearance in the body if the cap were to come straight out. How do you get the cap to come straight out then?

Look at that tutorial I posted a few days ago from OZ. There are bolts that must be removed (3 each side, bottom rear corner is the more important of the 3? I can't recall). You would ordinarily remove them after the rear suspension is dropped in a 944, but if there is enough clearance then you could do what you are thinking of doing. Maybe it would help to read a 911 t-bar indexing tutorial? It would be similar at this step. I have a 911&pcar world mag from a few months back that has an extensive write up on the 911 process......

Well, I have removed the bolts in the tutorial. Here is what I am looking at:

Question is, how do I get this black cap off to rotate the torsion bar, or do I need to drop the assembly and rotate the entire plate that black cap is sitting on?
