Default Instrument lights

I don't have any illumination on my instruments when I put the lights on. New bulbs needed, probably, what type are they, and how do you get at them?

Mike, do a search. THe reflectors go to hell on the cluster which lead to dim/no lights.

Look at Clark's Garage .

Look under 'Garage Shop Manual' and 'Instrument Panel Lights'.

Early dash- most likely bad bulbs. Check the grounds by the steering column as well..

I'm looking for a LOCAL source as well.

Pelican has them in stock

Light Bulb, Instrument/Gauge, 12V, 1.2W
J-631-132-90 $0.95

Light Bulb, Instrument/Gauge with Socket Base, 12V, 1.2W
K-631-301-90 $1.00

The reflector problem i think can only really be solved with the late style dashes, ive never seen any way or writeup on how to fix it with the early style dash. The best you can do is replace the bulbs with new, which will give slightly (emphasis on slightly) better illumination.

I believe the most widley available replacement is Sylvania 2721 at almost any autostore. You may be able to find a higher wattage bulbs, but be wary that you could overheat the sockets...etc.

I replaced all of the instrument bulbs on my 84 a few months ago. They were all available from Advance auto parts except two. There are two that are the same that are soldered or crimped into a black twist in holder. I couldn't find them anywhere so I pulled out the bulbs and soldered in new ones. I used the same bulbs that were used in the rest of the cluster. Worked great.
