I got a sweet deal on a 1994 968 with good bones. Would a manual transmission swap be insane? This car has many miles and is white so I don't think that it's worth restoring to original. Could be rel fun to mod out though.🤑

Anything is possible if you have enough time and enough money. Easier to find a 968 with a manual transmission.

This won't be exactly the same as what you're talking about but for some flavor of what it would take, this is an excellent thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...sion-swap.html

Cheers

Default Thank you you both.

I know that it would be a huge project but the car has 177,000 miles on it, it's white and has an automatic so I thought that modding it would be more fun than restoring it to original.
It has all the service records and is one owner and just got a new timing belt and water pump 18,000 miles ago. It's third of each according the records. The struts and rear shocks were recently replaced and it drives great with a few rattles🤠.
However the interior is blue the front seats are cooked and the carpet that was once blue is now purple in parts because it was never garaged. It's main fault is all the things associated with being outside, cracked dash, fading carpet, various water leaks that were all fixed, cooked cloth cover in the hatch back ect.
I just don't think restoring it to clean stock would make it sell for a lot and would be boring too. Really what would a white 1993 automatic 968 with 177,000 miles restored sell for. Not a huge price.
Again all comments and advice are welcome.

Not trying to discourage you in the slightest. It sounds like you have a good driver that you might want to change. I say go for it.

Cheers

Can it be done? Yep. Will it be cheap? Nope. Best bet is to find a manual parts car for all the donor parts. The big thing you'll need is a manual torque tube from 94 or 95 which some people have been waiting for years to find one. When you do, it will be over $1K and it will need to be rebuilt at another $600 just for the bearings. That's just for one part. You'll also need a manual bell housing for the engine which is nearly impossible to find. Most other parts are easy to source.

I mistyped in my first post it's a 1993 ,fat fingers. Maybe I'll just fix the inside and have some fun. If you use this shift side it pretty responsive. I could always sell it and buy something different.🤠

Default 968 Tip to manual

Hi there. Just did it. I have a nice shape 92 tip that didn't have original engine and tip has issues. So I/ mechanic did a swap. I went all out and found a 6spd LSD and put in a light weight clutch. This was not a simple or cheap scenario. Besides different torque tube, Drive shafts, bell housing, shift linkage, pedal assembly, starter, etc, there's all the small kibbles and bits. While torque tube was out we put new bearings in also. At the end of day finding a manual would be more sensical.

Cheers!

Default What is an LSD 6 speed?

I would just buy a stock manual after hearing responses and driving the car for a couple of weeks. It drives great and if you manually shift the tip at 4 to 5k rpms it is pretty fun. Lotsa miles but well maintained I may change the color and do some other mods, I don't think that the collectable side of things works for this car with so many miles. What you say?
