Can I have your front Valance! Im not sure where the relay comes in and might very well be part of the problem. Considering the mechanical movement of the headlights and various grounds/wires in that area I would spent some time looking a feeling around any and all wires plus connection in that area. Unplug and plug clean contacts Etc. You could disconnect the battery and run the headlight up with the manual **** and and look around. I would not be surprised if theres a ground wire that is broken or about to be and when the lights go up is looses connection. What part of gulf coast do you live in.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll be doing that along with checking the relay once I get some time. I’m south of Houston.

I need some electrical knowledge here. Sorry if this sounds ridiculous, I’m a mechanics guy, not an electrical guy. I hate electrical stuff.
I pulled the fan relay and tested it. It’s clicking with 12v power and I tested the terminals according to Clark’s.

Terminal “short circuit “readings should be zero and if any of the resistance readings are bad the relay is bad and should be replaced. My terminal A to B reading and terminal 30 to 87 reading were 004 or 005.

Is this considered “zero” ?

I’ve tested everything for the cooling fan according to Clark’s and everything is as it should be. After checking the wiring to the thermo switch, it looks like I’ve got some wire replacement to do. I’ve cleaned it up and will be going for a drive in a bit to see if things start working again.

Welp, 2 hours of work and testing and I’m still at square one. The driver’s side fan did not turn on at temp. I am going to order and replace the thermo switch. That is the only thing it could be at this point.

Any suggestions on brand to buy? The one in it that I replaced less than a year ago is a Wahler. Not sure I want to go back to that since it didn’t even last a year. Not a job I want to keep doing.

I got mine at Paragon Products. He only had one temp range in stock but it works fine dont remember what it was. In other words you have a couple of options what temp the fans come on Etc. Mine work and the low speed fan runs when the motor is off. Can you run 12 volts direct to the fan and confirm it works. What about the gauge?

The fan does work high an low speed. The Clark’s test procedure has you remove the thermoswitch wires and jump them together with the ignition off. The fan runs in low. Then has you do it with the ignition on and the a/c switched on and both fan run at high.

The switch itself has an open continuity test. When the car runs up to temp, the switch doesn’t close to turn the fan on.

The dash temp gauge still pegs off when the headlights are switched on. I still need to clean the right headlight ground point. It’s just stupid tight in that area of the car so it will wait for now.

I think banging my head into various parts of the car is my next step to see if it fixes it.

I had to replace my fan thermo switch as well. Luckily they are cheap and universal across many euro car models. I went with an 85/93 C one. Make sure the switch you get doesnt interfere with the thermostat temp or your fans may just run continuously. Example if you are using an 85C switch and the thermo is a 90C
