Default Engine hard to turn by hand

after putting the motor back in the car the crank is hard to turn with a breaker bar. no plugs are in it. after loosening the torque tube bolts to where there is a couple of milimeters separation between the torque tube and bell housing the motor spins much easier. it definitely spun easier before it was in the car. any thoughts as to what is causing this?

is an 86 944

It's possible the driveshaft is located too far forward within the torque tube or the clutch disc is not properly centered and causing interference at the pilot bearing.

Hello, I'm working on the same car with the person who posted. Does the drive shaft slide forwards and back inside the torque tube? This is our first time working on a 944 so pardon the lack of knowledge

Yes it can move within the tube and it is somewhat common for them to not be in the correct position.

Does that get adjusted at the coupler between the torque tube and the transmission?
