I’ll tell you a story about glass sunroofs and 944’s. Back in 1985 my father worked for Porsche cars North America based in Reno NV. The standard company car at the time was the 944, with the top honchos getting 928’s. My dad was in charge of aftermarket parts and distribution, and in that year Porsche equipped their company cars with a number of aftermarket “goodies” to test them before marketing. One of these was glass sunroofs, smoked black. Shortly after installing these on the 944’s they quickly were removed for two reasons. The cabin AC couldn’t keep the interior cold due to the additional glass ( they tried silver next, no improvement) but mostly because no matter what the engineers did, they never fit right and squeaked unbelievably. I remember (with some fondness) my dad driving around Reno trying to work the stick shift and pushing up on the glass as that was the only way to get the squeaking to stop. They didn’t last long and the project was killed and the old sunroofs were re-installed.
