Mechanics poll?

I also do all my own work, except for machine shop and body shop stuff. So far that includes AC, clutch, head (valves), and full transmission rebuild, among a million other small repairs. This Porsche 944 is why I work in an import service shop now. Good thing I had something to fall back on for a career after the 'puter industry left me high and dry.

In the last five years I've started doing all maintenance and repair myself. That includes belts, water pump, clutch, and the entire brake system.
I don't do alignments.
However, I recently had a front end shop replace the bushings, ball joints, struts, shocks, and a control arm because they did it so cheap.

I'll fix anything, even cameras.
I just hate having to take my car to a mech., it feels like such of waste of my time, dropping it off, getting a ride home, etc. I learnt a lot from a friend who once worked as a VW trouble shooter for their factory outside of Pittsburgh back in the eighties. That guy was fast, and incredibly smart. I'm not sure how practical a 944 would be for me if I was paying someone else to fix it all the time, then again I might not be as picky about it if that was the case.
As for shooting paint, it takes a lot of practice to get the mixture just right, I'm painting my mirrors right now, and this paint job looks 100% better than my first one.

I do everything on my own cars that I'm capable of doing.
I didn't install the new tires on my 86 N/A because I didn't have the balancer to do so... and installation tools... it was cheaper to have it done.. by far.. (I watched them like a hawk to make sure they did it correctly, though)
but things from the thermofan switch to a clutchjob to replacing a bad injector.
Basically, whatever the car can throw at me, I can take it.
I'm a Computer Engineer, so just about anything else isn't even half as complicated
