Post noisy exhaust?

I've just had my latest 86 951 for about two months after a three year hiatus. The exhaust seems awfully loud up around the front of the car. I don't know if it is just because I'm not use to it (after driving my other milk-toast cars) or whether there is a leak somewhere. The family says they always hear me driving down the street. I've checked nuts and bolts and examined the car underneath while it is running (not down the road). I can't find anything specific. Can I shoot something into the air intake to make some smoke and watch for leaks that way? Looking for suggestions.

Is it the normal noise, and just more of it, or has it changed tone?

no, the noise hasn't changed, but then I've only had this car for a couple months. I can't seem to find anything specific. I just don't remember these cars being this loud. I'm tempted to shoot a little ATF in to 'clean' it out and produce a cloud of white smoke to watch for leaks.
