That's a very interesting link Paul.
The lock information is on page 12.
I'll have to bookmark that link so I don't have to keep taking the Manual out of my car to look up stuff.
Thanks.

The door locks on my car are very strange.

When I first got my S2, I accidently locked myself in by hitting the central locking switch. It took me a while to figure out how to get out. You can't just pull the door locks up. You have to put the key in the ignition and either start the car or put it in the run position, and then you can press the switch again to unlock the doors.

The owner's manual doesn't mention it, but I found out today that the door locks behave differently when the windows are up than when they are down. If you try to unlock the doors from inside with the windows rolled up, it won't let you. But if you try to do it with the windows down, it works... and then the car alarm goes off. This is the first time I've ever heard it in action, and it scared the crap out of me. I had always thought that the red blinking lights were just for show, but I guess I was wrong.

2. The driver's door can only be locked from the outside with the key.
I think that means that if you're outside the car (i.e., the door is open) you can't lock the door with the button. Not that the only way to lock the door is with a key.

Okay, on mine.

If I lock either door from outside the other door will lock/unlock too.

I can't depress the lock button and close the drivers door, won't stay locked.

Car running, CLS will lock or unlock both doors. Never tried w/ car off.

Car running while inside, I can manually lock/unlock either door with button, however not very easy to unlock, but it will.

in most cars there is a latch in the door or a switch that detects that the door is closed there for letting you put the stem down. in the door the switch is probably broken. just because the door is shut does not mean the switch in the door is working properly and the locking mechanism thinks the door is open.

Is this something mechanical or electrical?

On my 83 with no CLS, its mechanical. Part of the lock mechanism.

Interesting, I always thought my drivers side button was broken cause when the door is open you cant push it down, but when your in the car and the doors closed, it goes down fine.
Finally something on my car that works properly!!! (knock on wood)
